Derby 2009

This year's derby is just around the corner, and among the highlights are plans to include a live video broadcast of the races. Our young drivers are excited about the prospect of having distant relatives and friends watch as they compete for top honors in Columbia, Missouri, and a chance to compete against other racers from around the world in Akron, Ohio.

There are three race divisions: Stock, Super Stock, and Masters.

"THE CLASH OF THE TITANS"

In addition to our young boys and girls competing this year, there are several community leaders who will compete to "defend the honor" of their respective organizations.

Deaton vs. Ritter
MU Chancellor and repeat competitor Brady Deaton will race against Columbia Superintendent of Schools Jim Ritter. Here's where the foundation of education comes face-to-face with secondary education. Everyone is waiting to see who gets this "diploma."

Burton vs. Carey
Columbia's new Chief of Police Ken Burton will be running red lights and speeding down Broadway against Boone County Sheriff Dwayne Carey to see who is the top law enforcement officer in Mid Missouri.

Ross vs. Rothery
University Hospital and Clinics CEO James Ross and Boone Hospital CEO Dan Rothery will square off for top racing honors in the healthcare industry.

Nauser vs. Pearson
Columbia Mayor Pro Tem Laura Nauser is preparing to challenge Boone County Presiding Commissioner and second-time racer Ken Pearson, who was edged out in 2008 by Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman.

Come on down and cheer on your favorite driver!
